Designing Creative & Collaborative Activities Using Technology
Option 1: Explain how your students may use a creative tool, such as Canva, to complete an activity.
In my Family & Consumer Management class, we host many events at the school throughout the year to teach my students life skills such as entrepreneurship and supply and demand. I have them use Canva in a variety of ways. My students are currently organizing a Holiday Toy Drive and one way they use Canva is to create flyers that we hang up around the school. Although I also teach Computer Art, a class that is Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator centered, Canva allows the more common user to create beautiful and professional flyers from predesigned templates to promote different events, freeing up time that students can then devote to other parts of planning the event instead of starting from scratch. Students also create social media graphics on Canva that match their flyers to create a cohesive theme. We hold a Holiday Boutique at the school each year. My students create labels on Canva for the body scrubs and candles that they make. We also learn to cook in Family & Consumer Management. When we cook for the school basketball games, my students not only put up flyers around the school, but also create a menu on Canva so that students, staff, and parents know what we are serving that day and how much each item costs. I find that Canva is very user-friendly and gives students that extra creative edge to make their ideas pop.
